THE OLAV PATH - GUDBRANDSDALSLEDEN
The Pilgrim’s Route in Norway (Norwegian: Pilegrimsleden or Gudbrandsdalsleden), also called Olav Path or the Old Kings’ Road, is a 640 km pilgrimage trail from Oslo to Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim, the burial site of St. Olav. The route passes Lake Mjøsa, the Gudbrandsdalen valley, crosses the Dovrefjell mountains, and descends through the Oppdal and Gauldalen valleys to its final destination.
The average hiking distance of the Olav Path is 20 kilometers per day and that requires solid walking experience. The walks lead over the Dovre plateau and further on forest paths, gravel roads, asphalt or grass. Although the route rises and falls, you will not have to climb or walk along steep precipices anywhere - except one short, optional stretch.
